Step #1-Find a Good Deal: Personally I spent most of my time on laptops because there’s more profit to be made there but I started by flipping a really cheap iPhone so regardless of what device you decide to start with, the main thing to keep in mind is that you make your money when you purchase the item. And what I mean by this is when you get a good deal on an item, then selling it at its market value is pretty easy but if you overpay initially then selling that above market value in order to make that same amount of profit is going to be next to impossible. So in order to make a consistent profit and have a quick turn around on your items, you have to buy at a good price. Now there are a million different places to look for a good deal and you’ll definitely want to try out a few different ones to find what works best for you.

Step #2-Sell For a Profit: Alright so now that you’ve purchased your first item whether that be a phone, a laptop, some other electronic or maybe even something completely different, now you have to sell it for more than what you paid. And again you can list this on places like offer up and Facebook marketplace but if you want to get the best price possible, my personal favorites are Swappa and Mercari. Now you can also sell on a place like eBay and they did actually just update their fee structure but in the past their fees have been a little bit higher than platforms like Swappa so that’s why I prefer to stay away from eBay when selling. Now the reason I like Swappa in particular is because they don’t have a percentage fee it’s just a flat tiered system that usually breaks down to a really low percentage of the sale.

Step #3-Create a Professional Listing: Regardless of what platform you decide to list your item on and you can absolutely list it on multiple sites, the most important thing is creating a professional and clean listing that makes you appear as a real business rather than someone who is selling electronics out of their house. And by far the most important factor when it comes to creating a professional listing is the photos. Now that doesn’t mean that you need to go out and spend a ton of money on a camera because most of you probably have a fantastic camera on your smartphone. But what I would recommend you invest in is what’s called a photo box which gives you consistent lighting that makes the item look really good and gives it that flat white background that looks really professional and gives the buyer confidence when buying.

Step #4-MAKE MONEY: Okay so now that you understand how all this works…let talk about how much money you can make. This is going to vary drastically on how many items you’re able to sell and what you’re selling but it’s really not that difficult to start making some substantial money from Flipping electronics. As a base example let’s say you’re able to sell 5 computers per month and each item makes you a $200 profit. Well that means that you’re making $1,000 per month in profit by selling just five computers which means you’re probably only putting in five hours of work if that.

So were you buying electronics that need light repairs? Or were you finding electronics that others valued low and then you sold high

Flippin' for a livin'!

What I don't like about flipping, other than houses/vehicles, is the risk of getting something with even one defect that even if the flipper thinks it's fine the buyer rejects. If one or more defects are mentioned and is rejected then it's simply a potential sale lost. Buying at any used cost and selling at retail or any other higher cost is too risky. I'd have to buy something new when it's on sale somewhere and sell it at retail. Otherwise, I'd rather sell something I've had for some time that I don't need/want anymore to one of those buy back websites/companies that recycle/repair 'it' and probably then resell it.
