  1. My unit is only three years old and I had my emergency heat on last night because it got down to 21 and it was blowing in cooler air and actually dropped the temp inside the house. Got a tech coming Monday to look and see what's going on, until then I guess we will be sleeping in a cold house with extra blankets.

  2. Thanks for the video, quick question: The 90 degree temperature reading was for the heat strips only or combined with the heat pump running?

  3. i have 4x 5kw strips 20kw and contactor/sequencer rattling last year at start of aux heat. got through the winter i figured i was running on 10kw when on aux heat because 1 of the 2 contactors wasn't engaging. Changed both contactors in september, engage properly but i didn't measure temp at register. now its getting cold -10 C aux heat operating and temp at register 87 on AUX, no better than heat pump. So i guess i didn't solve the problem, not sure what to do next. it shold be at least 100 deg out of the vents on AUX with full 20kw working. i don't know if it'S the heat delay switches (the 4 yellow circular delays – is that what you are calling relays?) around the elements or the elements themselves, or something else. any suggestions? if we hit -25 c i might be in trouble again can barely maintain 21-22 C at -10 outside (HP off) so i know for sure im not getting full 20KW output. outside of my strips is nice and clean no corrosion that i can see. in the past when AUX heat kicked in temp was hot and only stayed on for a few minutes to reach temp, which is probably not great, Now i must have 2/4 working or maybe 3/4 (is that possible if 2 strips on each sequencer?), below -9c aux is on and runs a long time not much down time.

  4. I know this is an old video, but hopefully you can tell me where you ordered your heat strips from. Thanks for any info if you see this.

  5. Very informative! What was the temperature at supply vents after having replaced the heat coils?

Heat pump at my home blows 85-95 F air at vents. some vents produce less warm air than others. When heat pumps runs on regular heat mode, air at vents are 90-100. So, I am puzzled by why aux heat produces less warm air. I am guessing some heat coils do not work properly.

  6. If we have an electric furnace (which is your heat strips, although you call it a heat pump) and an outside AC(also works as a heat pump), how do we test if the heat pump is generating heat, while both the heat pump and the furnace can generate heat?

  7. Its too bad we don't use 3 phase in our houses in this country. You could put each 5kw element on a phase thus balancing the system. In Germany they use a 400Y/230 volt system even in their homes.

  8. I dont understand why you call the heat strips your primary and also emergency heat. In my understanding its exactly opposite.
